The end of OpenOffice is near

OpenOffice.org Writer

This may be one of the last times that we see OpenOffice working, since some people in charge of the project want to close it permanently because they do not have users and because the vulnerabilities cannot be solved.

Today it was announced that the Apache company may end OpenOffice, an office suite that in his day he was very popular, but that nowadays it seems that very few people use it.

The reason for the possible end of OpenOffice apparently is because security vulnerabilities in the program have not been resolved. Some people on the Apache project, such as Dennis Hamilton, think it is better to stop supporting their office suite and focus on other projects.

However, some people in the OpenOffice project disagree with this and want to relaunch the OpenOffice brand, with a new marketing campaign and hiring new developers who are in charge of correcting these vulnerabilities and making the product competitive.

If the project is definitively closed, certain things would remain unresolved, such as the OpenOffice trademark, its official wiki and its code. Without a doubt, OpenOffice would leave a great legacy, a legacy that seems to be a part of the past.

In my opinion, I think the real reason they want to close OpenOffice forever is that other office suites such as LibreOffice have literally eaten up the Apache project, getting many more users and better support and performance.

However, there are still people who use this office suite, especially those who installed it when it was popular and have decided to continue with it. These people would be left without support and would have to switch to LibreOffice or install Microsoft Office through Wine.

Will OpenOffice die for good? this is something only time will tellAs an official decision on this has not yet been made, however, things are looking bad for the Apache suite.

If you want to remember old times or give this office suite one last chance, you can download the latest version here. If instead do you want to switch to LibreOffice for good?, you can click on this link that will take you to the official page of the same.

The truth is, do not get so nostalgic or worry, the old OpenOffice.org developers are the ones who maintain LibreOffice, that is, the work on OpenOffice.org was redirected to LibreOffice and this to keep it free of any brand association, under the receipt from The Document Foundation.
Apache has tried to revitalize Apache OpenOffice, but it lacks even developers to release security patches.
If OpenOffice ends it would be a shame for how it sounds ... because OpenOffice is legendary in the collective consciousness, however today that brand is just a name, because everything previously was behind that name today is found in LibreOffice.
