elementary OS 5.1.6 introduces new changes to AppCenter and Files, among other less important new features

elementary OS 5.1.6

I have to admit that June monthly note about the evolution of the "primary operating system" has puzzled me a bit. And it is that, checking the old v5.1.5, Cassidy Jaemes Blaede mentioned some of the most important changes to AppCenter and Files, something that Daniel Foré, project leader, also did in the middle of this week, when he told us about elementary OS 5.1.6 and its most outstanding news.

Because yes, in the note in which they talk about elementary OS 5.1.6 they mention minor changes for which we are only interested in the operating system, such as that they have said goodbye to Bountysource or that they have started using Plausible on the web, but they have mentioned again how most notable changes some introduced in AppCenter and Files. They have also introduced others that you have detailed below.

Highlights of elementary OS 5.1.6 Hera

  • code:
    • Now displays a placeholder in the Outline / Symbols plugin when no symbols are found to prevent the sidebar from jumping when switching between different types of code files.
    • They have addressed an issue where the folder sidebar layout could get squashed and empty, ensuring that the "Open project folder ..." button remains visible.
    • We can now scroll past the end of a file, making it easy to get a line of code exactly where we feel comfortable with it on the screen.
    • The way Code saves and loads the size and position of your window has been optimized to reduce how often you access your disk.
  • AppCenter improves support for Flatpak. Specifically, it should now no longer show updates that are empty. On the other hand, the elementary software center will no longer use more CPU than necessary when displaying a certain number of screenshots.
  • Files has fixed a couple of regressions, other crashes with files containing the # symbol, and a problem with the size of windows with long file names in List view.
  • Videos should start much faster with a large video library. It has also added more robust management for folders with missing or moved libraries. In this version the loading of external subtitles has also been corrected.
  • The calendar app and its timestamp now show the correct time for events that were created in a different time zone.
  • Several system components have received minor updates to ensure that sessions are terminated quickly and safely when exiting or shutting down the computer.

Not yet available for download

At this point we should say that elementary OS 5.1.6 Hera is already available for download, but at the time of writing, although they have already told us about its arrival, cannot download yet from the official website. In the next few hours, it should appear in this link.
