Edit photos in Linux with these Photoshop alternatives

Although in Linux we do not have Photoshop (not counting Wine), we have quite good alternatives with which we can work with little to envy the Adobe program

Although in Linux we do not have Photoshop (not counting Wine), we have quite good alternatives with which we can work with little to envy the Adobe program

One of the biggest problems Linux users have is that sometimes we don't have as much software as we would like with respect to Windows. One such example is the famous adobe photoshop, which is considered the king of photo editing programs.

Fortunately, we have several alternatives to this photo editing program in Linux, which if you have enough knowledge, you can do practically the same things that are done with Adobe Photoshop.

Alternatives to Photoshop for Linux

Gimp

A program that began as a simple Photoshop for the poor and that has ended up being the main alternative to it. Gimp has been offering us a great service for more than a decade to edit all the photos, with a lot of very powerful editing tools. It is a program widely used to retouch photos and to make photomontages.

GIMP

Inkscape

Another of the so-called great photo editing programs for Linux that focuses more on vector graphics editing than for images in the classic jpg and bpm formats. It is the favorite program of the most advanced users like graphic designers.

Alternative to Photoshop Inkscape

Chalk

Drawing program that has gained many followers in recent years, due to the advanced features it has, such as the color adjustment and filters similar to those of the Adobe program. It is included within the famous KDE Applications, the basic application package for the KDE desktop.

Pixlr

Finally we have an online photo editing program, for which we will only need an Internet browser to run it, being able to do it of course from our Linux. It is a more powerful web application than it seems, having three levels of editing starting with the basic ones and ending with the advanced ones, being a recommended program to edit photos quickly, without having to install anything.

Take out Inkscape, because Inkscape is for vector editing and creation, it has nothing to do with photo retouching.

Then the replacement or alternative for Photoshop would be Gimp, then programs like Krita are for digital painting something very different from Gimp and Pixlr.
It is good to clarify terms, because I see a lot of misinformation regarding: Vectors, photo editor, digital painting, it is like saying oranges, apples and pears are the same.

It would be good if you make the most interesting post, put the category digital painting and put Krita as a replacement for Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape for Adobe Indesing or Corel, and finally Gimp and Pixlr for Adobe Photoshop, without offending or anything just as an explanation since I do not deny the good spirit of promoting gnulinux and its alternatives, many complete replacements, for example, I have been working with Inkscape for 6 years as a graphic designer, an excellent tool, I do not miss Corel or Adobe Indesign.

Take care I do not miss a single of your publications

I would add Rawtherapee and Darktable. It is the best there is, they also have integration with Gimp

Completely agree with you. And I would add "My paint" to the list of digital drawing programs, but we can include Krita perfectly in photo retouching (which is what I use it for) because it is very versatile.

Too bad the "Practically" is so huge
Sure, if you resign, fine. But there is no color, no close, no resemblance, not even a hint
But whoever wants to use it, let him use it
What pisses me off is that they fool people. "I'm going to give you, (because it's free, (well, more or less)) a racehorse, of Arab race, finite, attractive, a thoroughbred" and it turns out that when you see it, .. it's a paunchy nag
    that's linux
write letters, read emails, and little else
Sure, if there was nothing else, it would be the host, but compared to the windows, there is no color

Poor ignorant! Ignorance is definitely daring. And I'm not here to defend Linux, the system defends itself. But to say that Linux is a "skinny, old and ungainly horse, of little value and utility" and that besides that it only serves to "write letters, read emails, and little else" is really from an ignorant who has never tasted the power Linux or at least it has been documented on it. - If Linux were that, do you think Microsoft would be flirting with it years ago? - Do you think the largest and most secure servers in the world would be running linux? - What happens my friend, is that linux has to choose from that there are plenty of options and each person chooses the one that seems best to him and with which he feels most comfortable. I suggest you, before launching such an unfortunate comment, first document yourself. Peace.

For three years I have been using linux, gimp, mypaint openshot, and all the huge collection of programs that this system offers me, I have forgotten about viruses, spam, crashes and licenses.
my task is at times somewhat intense since although I am a draftsman-painter, I use technology in all my work.
So to the obtuse Linux critics, I am sorry that you are not coming out of your ignorance.

Excellent article, thank you. The list is very complete.
Love for the GIMP and its price: $ 0.00.
    Do -almost- everything manually.
that for what I use it I have enough and it is enough for me.
I choose the XP-Pen Deco 01 https://www.xp-pen.es/product/249.html as the best graphic tablet for retouching photographs because it is the most compatible with all the editing programs that exist, especially with GIMP.
