On many occasions we have talked about tools to keep the operating system clean, delete temporary files, cache, etc., as well as the occasional tool to eliminate duplicate files. This time it's the turn of dupeGuru, a simple but very practical program to free up some GB of your hard drive if you have duplicates that you don't need.
Manually deleting duplicates is quite arduous and sometimes it becomes almost impossible to be comparing files from the different existing paths. That is why you can use tools like dupeGuru with which automate all that work. Also, you should know that dupeGuru written in Python that has a simple GUI, so you won't have to use commands ...
Another positive thing about dupeGuru is that it has several analysis modes of duplicate files: standard, music and pictures. Each of these modes in turn has its own unique scan types and characteristics.
- Standard: is the mode in which it will search for all types of files regardless of type.
- Music- Will only search for duplicates in sound files.
- Pictures- Will only look for duplicates in images.
Now the scan types supported are:
- Filename: search for the same names.
- Contents: it will scan by analyzing the files and their content to see if it is exactly the same or not. It is practical in the case of having duplicates with different names.
- Folders: it is a special type of scan that looks for duplicate directories instead of files, that is, duplicate folders ...
To use it, just choose where dupeGuru should look, choose the type or mode you want from the above and press the Scan button. Wait for the result to finish and it will show the duplicates found.
Then you can select the type of action you want. You can select some, all, only the duplicates, keep them, delete them all, etc. As simple as that!
