Learning new skills like languages is important to many. So much so that it has made many stop using the computer for tablets or smartphones that have suitable applications for it. However, more and more apps are moving from the smartphone to the desktop.
We can say that the Duolingo app has made that step, although not officially. Linux users can have a part of the Duolingo service on our desktop without using the mobile app or having an app that manages our mobile remotely.
For this we only have to have Gnome installed and use as the default desktop. A user named Bo32 has created an extension that connects to our Duolingo account and shows us in Gnome the state of learning of our languages. What's more we can see our goals, those achieved and those that we have to overcome as well as a direct access to the Duolingo website, for when we want to continue with the learning.
This app is not official, but it is a useful extension that connects seamlessly with the Duolingo service. This extension is compatible with the latest versions of Gnome Shell, so if we do not have a very old version, surely we can install and use this Duolingo extension.
We can install this extension through the Gnome extensions manager, or through the developer's Github repository, where we can find the code as well as report any irregularity or problem with the extension.
The truth is that I know of few applications or extensions related to language learning and even fewer that connect with mobile services such as Duolingo. On the other hand, this mobile app is being widely used to learn languages successfully, so it seems that it is worth a try. Do not you think?
