Debian 10.9 comes with SBAT support for FWUPD packages and security and performance improvements

Debian 10.9

Bullseye is currently in the Hard Freeze, a more flexible freeze than the final but less than the previous one. The 11th will be the next version of one of the most important Linux operating systems, on which Ubuntu is based and, by extension, dozens of distributions. But that they are on the verge of a launch does not mean that they have already put aside what is available, and the project has just launched Debian 10.9.

Today March 27, Project Debian has re-released one of those entrances in which they do not give many details, beyond informing of the availability of a new version of their operating system. They usually warn that it is not a totally new version, but an ISO that collects all the news that have been released in recent months. The previous image It was Debian 10.8 and it arrived about a month and a half ago.

Debian 10.9 is not a new version of Buster

Debian 10.9 is the last point update of the stable channel, and among the new features it stands out that it supports SBAT for FWUPD packages. On the other hand and as usual, they have also added bug fixes and security patches, so it is recommended to use this new ISO for new installations. The kernel is still 4.19, but a project-maintained version that includes the latest patches. Among other novelties we have a security patch for cloud-init to prevent it from being identified with passwords generated in readable log files and updates for Intel CPU microcode.

Debian 10 was first released in July 2019 and will be supported for 5 years, specifically until 2024. Meanwhile, this summer Debian 11 will arrive, the version that will be the most updated, but it will continue to be far from offering the latest news due to the conservative philosophy of its team of developers.
