Debian 10.7 now available, comes mostly with security patches

Debian 10.7

It has been almost a year and a half that «Buster» is with us. Since then, the Debian project has released 7 maintenance updates, the sixth at the end of September and a few hours ago they launched Debian 10.7. It is not the most exciting update of this famous distribution, mother and grandmother of many operating systems, but these types of updates are never, nor are the similar ones in some of its children like Ubuntu.

As the project indicates in the release noteUsers who are already using Debian 10 should not worry too much to receive all the news of this update, more than anything because they are the ones that have been released in recent months and, if they don't already have them installed, they will appear soon as available.

Debian 10.7 is not a new version of Debian

Note that the spot release does not constitute a new version of Debian 10, but only updates some of the included packages. There is no need to ditch the old "Buster" media. After installation, packages can be updated to current versions using an updated Debian mirror. Those who install updates from security.debian.org frequently will not have to update many packages, and most of these updates are included in the spot release.

Another thing they also mention is that those who install the updates from security.debian.org they will have even less to update, because they will have already installed all the CVE security updates, which is the bulk of the new images. And speaking of new images, those of 10.7 are available in this link, and we must remember that they are only for new installations or for those who do not want to upload from Debian 9 or earlier updating from the same operating system.

Moreover, Debian 11 is expected to arrive sometime in 2021.
