Commodore 64: buy a retro case for your PC

Commodore 64

If you like retro computing, surely you know the famous classic well Commodore 64. A PC that triumphed in the past and that continues to generate a sensation today by many vintage enthusiasts who want to have it among their collections. However, for the rest of the mortals it only remains to revive some of their programs and games using certain emulators ...

But now, if you want to enjoy retro computing, you can do it thanks to the company My Retro Computer, which has brought the Commodore 64x back to life, even if it's just its case. A case inspired by a replica of the Commodore 64x PC that was released in 2011 and was intended to mimic that of a few decades ago, but which came to an untimely end due to the death of Commodore USA founder Barry Altman in 2012.

By the way, that company is not about the original Commodore, CommodoreUSA It was a recently created company with a rather murky history that has ended the creation of My Retro Computer, hoping not to make the same mistakes as the other and to have a little more success.

They have recently announced two mini housings for PCs inspired by the Commodore 64 and also the Commodore VIC-20. Two of the most legendary models that can now be yours.

Both are designed to be able to house inside a plate with a form factor Mini-ITX. Therefore, you can build a different miniPC with clear retro inspiration and that will include:

  • Low noise Cherry Switch mechanical keyboard.
  • SD card reader.
  • Support for optical reader / hard disk.
  • 40mm fan to keep gear cool.

The motherboard and other necessary components do not come included in the kit from the casing. Therefore you will have to buy them on your own.

The good news is that it seems that the project wants to grow and expand to cover more models, such as launching retro housings for SBC boards like the one ODROID and the Raspberry Pi. For this they will offer an adapter plate and cables for assembly before the end of 2020.

I would kill for a similar case that simulates the Amiga 500. The best Commodore computer by far.
