CODE 3.0, a new way of working with Office Automation

CODE 3.0 in operation

There are many free office solutions for Gnu / Linux. The most famous of these is LibreOffice, but there are many others. The current problem with these office suites is the impossibility of working collaboratively through them. That is, work remotely and be able to create documents between several users.

It is something difficult to find but not impossible. Collabora is the only free office suite that is characterized by this, for being collaborative. Collabora is based on LibreOffice, but unlike this one, Collabora used in the web browser and not on the desktop.

Collabora has recently launched a version called CODE which stands for Collabora online Development Edition, that is, an online version in development. This version has recently reached version 3, being renamed CODE 3.0. Although we have to say that it does not mean that it is an unstable version or that it cannot be used, on the contrary.

CODE 3.0 now is available for any server and for the most popular cloud technologies, like NextCloud, OwnCloud or Pydio. We can also download it and install it on our computer thanks to docker technology. This new version fixes bugs that have appeared and adds LibreOffice Rich to the office suite.

The truth is that CODE 3.0 is a very interesting version of LibreOffice, because It not only allows us to edit and create text documents, spreadsheets and presentations, but it also allows us to do all this in any web browser, from the latest Firefox to Midori, without having problems loading or speed of use. Something that happens in other cloud office suites such as Office 365.

Unfortunately we will not find applications that do have LibreOffice, such as LibreOffice Base or LibreOffice Draw, but it will be a matter of time before the successor versions to CODE 3.0 contain the latter. Do not you think?
