What is Clonezilla? Your friend in the face of disasters

Clonezilla

Clonezilla is free cloning software of entire disks or partitions. That is why it can save you from a good disaster, allowing you to have a backup or backup copy of your system or data without being affected by a physical failure of your storage hardware or by any other software problem, such as a ransomware that encrypts the contents of your disk and you must pay a ransom if you want to recover it.

Having a backup is always highly recommended, especially if you have valuable data or customers in the case of being a company. Now we are seeing more and more ransomware that arrives in different ways, such as in dubious emails that supposedly are from Correos, or Endesa, etc. Also, some of them affect GNU / Linux operating systems, so we are not entirely safe. With Clonezilla you can be more calm when making a complete backup.

You should know that it was created by Steven Shaiu and developed by the NCHC Labs of Taiwan. It is offered in different editions, such as Clonezilla Server Edition (over a network), which offers multicast support for more than 40 simultaneous computers and with functionalities that may remind you of the famous proprietary and paid software Norton Ghosth Corporate Edition, which serves the same purpose as Clonezilla. Clonezilla Server or SE achieves this task thanks to DRBL (Diskless Remote Boot in Linux) servers and workstations connected to the network.

Another version is Clonezilla Live (CD or USB Live), which allows cloning users who have individual machines, and therefore the most useful for most of us. In both cases it is allowed to save the cloning in an image file or as an exact copy of the data. You can also choose if you save them locally (on your hard drive or pendrive) or if they do it on a server using an SSH connection, a Samba or file server you have, etc. Of course, whenever you want you can restore these backup points.
