Recently Clem, leader of the Linux Mint project and the Cinnamon desktop, has published a news about Cinnamon. In this case, this novelty it's called Cinnamon Spices. It is not really new as they are Applets, plugins, screenlets, etc ... that we use to customize and add new functions to Cinnamon.
In this case, the team has unified everything under the same application called Cinnamon Spices and from where the Cinnamon user can go safely and without fear that they are malware.
Cinnamon Spices has a web where we will find all those additives that meet the standard of the Cinnamon team. In addition, this functionality offers greater compatibility with the latest versions of Cinnamon, so if we really have the latest version of Cinnamon and we want to add an applet compatible with an older version, there will be no problem using it.
Cinnamon Spices offers more security to Cinnamon users
Despite the recent announcement, Cinnamon Spices is already supported on the latest versions of this minty desktop. To be able to access it directly, we have to go to System Settings -> Applets / Desklets / Extensions / Themes and select what we want to install. Another way is to go to the official website, download the component and install it in the previous way.
This new function is still a secure repository as we currently use in the Gnu / linux distribution or (to bring similarities) to the WordPress plugin repository. And it is that the Cinnamon and Linux Mint team have created this after the attacks they received a few months ago. They first decided to close the possibility to third-party developers but later they decided to do this and work with developers to provide more security for end users.
If you like have a custom desktop and you have Cinnamon, Cinnamon Spices is something you have to visit and try, but if you like minimalism, the Cinnamon novelty may not be for you.
