Cinnamon 6.2 arrives preparing the ground for Linux Mint 22 with few important changes, but improving support for NVIDIA

Cinnamon 6.2

As expected for the dates we are in, it is now available Cinnamon 6.2. The steps that lead us to a new version of Linux Mint involve Canonical releasing a new version of Ubuntu, the mint project giving us a new release of the graphical environment it develops, and this is followed by a new version of its operating system. The first step occurred in April, and the second during this weekend.

As for new features, Cinnamon 6.2 does not come with a long list of highlights. Like many other projects, Clem Lefebvre and his team are now focusing on Wayland, and also polishing what they released in past versions. Optimization work is still important, but it does not motivate as many headlines. What you have below is a list with some of the news that have arrived alongside Cinnamon 6.2.

Cinnamon 6.2 Highlights

  • Welcome badges for Cinnamon sessions.
  • Ability to show the default search bar in the app launcher dialog.
  • New 5 and 10 second screen lock delay options.
  • Improved support for Flatpak applications.
  • New XApp – Mint's own application for online accounts based on GTK.
  • Possibility to configure links for Spices.
  • It is now possible to display pending battery charge/discharge states in Power Management.
  • New action icon for Mint-X theme.
  • NVIDIA support improvements.
  • Improvements to the workspace selector.
  • The Science section has been added to the menu.

Cinnamon 6.2 is the desktop developed by the Mint team for its operating system, but it can also be installed on other distributions. The files are published on GitHub. It will soon be available to install in some Rolling Release distributions such as Arch Linux, and in July or August Linux Mint 22 will arrive with this desktop in its main edition.
