There are many distributions and operating systems for the different SBCs on the market, especially for the most popular of all, the Raspberry Pi. Some of them based on a Linux kernel and others that are not, such as RISC OS, FreeBSD, etc. But today we are talking about Chromium OS, an old acquaintance in our blog LxA, since it is the open operating system based on Linux kernel and that emerges as a "brother" of Google's Chrome OS for Chromebooks ...
It turns out that a while ago we heard news about Dylan Callahan and his Chromium OS for SBCs, trying to bring the open source operating system with the Linux kernel so that we could enjoy it on SBCs like the Raspberry Pi. This project was launched in search of new developers and collaborators in 2016, but that did not happen and months later and we learned that Flint INnovations Limited forked the project in Flint OS.
Despite expectations for Flint OS, they supported both official Raspberry Pi boards and other similar SBCs from other manufacturers, and even x86-based computers, etc. Additionally, Flint OS allowed run Android apps, with what this means ... as in Google ChromeOS. But in 2018, March specifically, Flint OS has been shared by Neverware, but Keith Callahan has announced that the project to bring Chromium OS to SBCs is being revived.
As we have learned from the digital media, Callahan has said that he works on Chromium OS 1.0 codenamed Weinreich. This operating system should reach the public about christmas of this year, that is, at the end or beginning of the next. In principle, it will support Raspberry Pi 2 and 3, with their different models and variants, so we wish this project good health so that it ends up arriving after all the difficulties suffered.
