Chrome OS 84 includes new features for tablets and Linux users, among others

Chrome OS 84

The COVID crisis caused many companies to change their agendas. Among them was Google, who passed the v82 of its web browser and operating system to go to v83. Now it seems that everything is returning to normal, at least in terms of release dates, and the company famous for the great search engine launched Chrome OS 84, the most up-to-date version of your desktop operating system.

Although personally I could never keep up with the most complete and traditional Linux distributions, the truth is that Google greatly improves its desktop operating system with each launch. At the end of May, the v83 Anadio options such as putting a security PIN or Google Families, and now in July it has introduced others that will be appreciated by those who use it on tablets. Below you have the list of the most outstanding news that have arrived with Chrome OS 84.

Chrome OS 84 Highlights

  • Overview mode- A window can now be dragged to the left or right edge of the screen to quickly set up a split screen view. If we use multiple screens, we can also drag windows between screens from the overview mode.
  • Take photos with the volume buttons: This makes it easier to take a photo by pressing the up or down button. For now, this feature is only available in tablet mode.
  • Resize virtual keyboards: dragging from a corner of the floating keyboard to resize it.
  • Save Videos- Until now, all videos shot with Chromebook cameras were saved as MKV files. Now we can save them as MP4 files, which makes it more likely that third-party applications can work with them, or that the people we send the video to can play it.
  • Linux Microphone Access (Beta)- Now we can access the Configuration for Linux (Beta) and activate the switch to allow Linux applications to access the microphone. This is disabled by default.
  • Search in ChromeVox: Now it is possible to search within the ChromeVox menus to find what we are looking for even faster. We simply have to open the menu and it will be placed in the Search field. We can search for a certain item or use the arrow keys to navigate through the menus

The launch of Chrome OS 84 was official yesterday, July 21, so, if it has not already arrived on your Chromebook, since Google delivers its updates gradually, it should do so in the next few hours.
