Chrome OS 80 improves the installation of APKs and activates the PiP on Netflix

Chrome OS 80

It took longer than expected, in fact the earlier version It came out in mid-December and this was expected for February 11, but we already have it here Chrome OS 80. Available for a few hours, the new version of the operating system for limited-resource computers from Google is an important release, especially for those who use Linux containers: from now on, it will use Debian 10 "Buster", something that has been updated since Debian 9 "Stretch". This means that, by default, more updated packages will be delivered, but to achieve this you will have to reinstall the operating system to v80.

Another outstanding novelty is that now you can install APKs, that is, Android applications without having to configure the entire operating system in developer mode. This will improve the user experience because, although it is true that support for Android apps was already included, now we can do it directly and without activating advanced options that, in many cases, can be dangerous. Below you have a list of the most outstanding news that have arrived with Chrome OS 80.

Chrome OS 80 Highlights

  • The new Linux Containers switch to Debian 10 "Buster", but the update will not be automatic.
  • The tab strip interface has been added to tablet mode. If it does not appear, it can be activated from these links: chrome: // flags / # webui-tab-strip, chrome: // flags / # new-tabstrip-animation y chrome: // flags / # scrollable-tabstrip. The computer must be restarted for the changes to take effect.
  • Fixed a bug with screen auto-rotation.
  • Now you can see Netflix in PiP, which we remember is a floating window that shows the video in question. It is not confirmed if it is new to the v80 of the operating system or is also available in previous versions.

The new version was launched yesterday March 2 and, as usual, Google is delivering it progressively. This means that, if you have not already received it, you will receive it in the next few hours or days.
