Chrome 86 comes with new WebCodes and WebHID APIs, among other improvements

Chrome 86

Although it has not yet reached most computers, Google today launched Chrome 86, the new major version of your web browser that it was scheduled for today October 6th. Available in beta version from September 3, we are not facing one of the most exciting launches, but it does include improvements, such as new APIs that will allow the browser of the big G to be more solvent than the version released on August 26.

Among the new APIs that Google has included in its browser, we have that of WebCodecs, to improve the experience of streaming games, or that of WebHID, which will support devices with human interfaces directly from the browser, something that, otherwise, it must have supported the operating system. Here are the most outstanding news that have arrived alongside Chrome 86.

Chrome 86 highlights

  • Easier and better file system access thanks to the native file system API, where users can grant access to web applications to a specific file or folder for reads and writes. This can be useful for video / image editors, code editors, office suites, and more within the web browser.
  • A back cache has been added to allow instant navigation on previously visited pages.
  • New APIs to support multi-screen window placement for better multi-screen experiences on the web.
  • WebCodecs API as a low-level codec API for game streaming, transcoding, and similar uses.
  • WebHID API to support human interface devices directly from the browser that would not otherwise be supported by the underlying operating system

As we have mentioned, Google has released Chrome 86 today, but we may still have to wait a few minutes or more hours to see the update in our software center. For new users, the browser can be downloaded from this link.
