Chrome 81 arrives adding support for NFC and improving browser security

Chrome 81

Last February, Google launched the v80 from your browser. At that time, the world had not yet taken steps to protect itself from COVID-19, and that release came with the usual number of changes. Yesterday, the company famous for the most important search engine launched Chrome 81, a version whose News list not too seductive. Everything seems to indicate that the culprit is the pandemic, which has come to affect Google developers so much that they have decided to skip a major version.

The number of this version is 81.0.4044.92 and includes changes such as support for the NFC Web API, which will result in web apps they can use the NFC integrated. In other words, if our computer includes an NFC chip, the compatible web apps that we run on Chrome 81 or later will have access to it to, among other things, transfer files and data. On the other hand, Google has included 32 security patches.

Google will make the jump from Chrome 81 to Chrome 83

Mozilla appears to have been unaffected by the much-mentioned COVID-19 crisis. Yesterday they launched Firefox 75 and next month they will launch Firefox 76, but it has not fared the same for Google. If we take into account that they usually release a new version every 8 weeks, Chrome 82 should arrive at the beginning of June, but said launch will not take place and will go directly to Chrome 83. The schedule will also be modified a bit, since this landing will take place in mid-May, a couple of weeks before Chrome 82 should arrive.

Chrome 81 is now available for all supported systems from the official website, which you can access from this link. In the case of existing users, when installing the browser for the first time it also adds the official repository, so updating is as simple as opening the software center or update app and installing the new packages that will already be waiting for us.
