Chrome 77 now available, arrives with a new animation in the favicon

Chrome 77

Although I am more of the "Firefox team" and I like more to talk about the news of Mozilla's browser, Google's Chrome is still the most used browser on the planet. This week, the company of the famous search engine has launched Chrome 77, a major update that comes with interesting news, such as a new animation in the Favicons (the small icons of the webs) of the tabs while the page is loading, although it seems that this novelty is not available in Linux.

What is available to us Linux users is a new splash screen which invites us to customize our browser, adding favorites to Google apps below the search bar on the main page or «Home». Among the applications that we can add we have Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps or Google Translator. It will also ask us if we want to use Chrome as the default browser and, if we say yes and confirm our choice, it will propose to synchronize bookmarks, passwords, etc., with other devices in the cloud.

New "Send To" feature in Chrome 77

One of the new features in Chrome 77 seems to have borrowed it from Firefox: now we can send a tab to another synced device with the same account. For example, if we are in Chrome on a mobile, we can send the tab we are visiting to our PC or vice versa. In order to see this function, we have to be logged into a Google account. Cross-device sharing isn't the only thing Google has borrowed from Mozilla for its browser. Now, to improve security, Site Isolation protects us from cookies, HTTP sources and other tracking software, even if we are visiting pages controlled by an attacker.

Chrome 77 is now available from your download web page. Existing users should see the new version at any time, since installing Google's browser automatically adds its repository. As a curiosity, to say that the beta version of Microsoft Edge Chromium, which will probably come to Linux in the future, also uses version 77, in this case Chromium.
