Cassidy James finally leaves elementaryOS, and her version of what happened

Cassidy Blaede leaves elementaryOS

a little less than a month ago we asked ourselves a question: What if elementaryOS disappeared? It was something that could happen, since Danielle Foré and Cassidy James they had very distant ideas about how to move forward with the project. In fact, the second wanted to stop working on the operating system, but he wanted to keep actions and be able to make decisions. The last thing we knew was that James's lawyer got in touch with Foré, that is to say, that they already put aside the friendship and began to treat everything as a business.

On March 31st, and we hadn't had time to publish it until now, Cassidy James published an article on his blog with details about what happened. She starts by talking about how he had been working on taking elementaryOS for 10 years and making it what it is now. He says that he founded elementary, LLC in 2011, without mentioning Foré, but he does mention her to say that both he and she had jobs elsewhere, and that they worked at elementary as and when they could.

Cassidy James will focus on GNOME, Flatpak, Flathub and those growing ecosystems

The problem was that, when the project was going best, the pandemic arrived. ElementaryOS's numbers fell, and they began to have financial problems. It was then that Cassidy James raised the possibility of going back to what they did in the past, that is, working in something that gave them a living and, how and when they could, work at elementary. Danielle didn't like this, and that was the end of the story.

Cassidy James has sold its entire stake on elementaryOS, and is now 100% owned by Danielle. It's worth noting that Foré didn't work full-time on elementaryOS until 2015, when everything was trending upwards. She now owns the project.

James ends his blog post by saying that wishes Danielle the best, and agrees with the direction the project is taking, but right now he cannot afford the economic cost and has decided to work on something that brings him money. And from here we wish the best to both of them and to the project.
