CaesarIA, the Open Source Caesar III

Surely you remember the mythical city building game Caesar III, one of the best strategy games of the 90s. The CaesarIA team also remembers and for that reason, they have developed an open source clone of this mythical game.

Although the original Caesar III was only available for WindowsCaesarIA is not only available for Microsoft's system, but we also have it available for Linux, for MacOS X and even for Android mobile phones.

The original game consists of a city building game, in which, we must build a Roman city and attract population to it. At the same time, we must satisfy all the needs of the population (food, religion, entertainment), while we trade and collect taxes so as not to run out of money. We must also maintain the favor of Caesar, watch the deal with the Roman Gods and fight against natives and civilizations that will attack our city.

The game has a story mode, in which which each city we choose will be more complicated, being able to choose between a peaceful settlement (without enemies but very demanding) and a war settlement (with enemies but easier to govern). It also has a city building mode, to play just to pass the time.

The main difference between CaesarIA and the original CaesarIII, is the graphical enhancement that CaesarIA has included. The open source version brings an improvement to the textures of buildings and people, making them more stylized, but without losing the essence of the original.

The CaesarIA project is part of a campaign of CrownfundingIn which they are expected to raise 10.000 dollars to carry out the entire process of changing textures. So far they are on the right track and have raised almost $ 1800.

At the moment, to play CaesarIA you need the CaesarIII game, a game that is very easy to find online since is Abandonaware, that is to say, an old software that has already been abandoned and therefore is free and with a free download. The original CDROM is also valid for the installation (as is my case).

Without a doubt, great news for lovers of this strategy game. I personally spent many hours hooked on the computer playing CaesarIII and CaesarIA, I can do it on any platform and with a facelift.

To download CaesarIA, we must do it from this official link. We also have to download the Original CaesarIII and once we have both downloaded, we must continue these instructions to install it in our operating system and thus enjoy this great game on our computer as if we were another in 1998.

In the link of the campaign it says that it is closed because it has already ended.
    With less than $ 1.800.

It has nothing to do with the article, but it would be great if you wrote about one that is also for Linux. It's called Seven Kingdoms (https://7kfans.com) In Ubuntu it is installed by typing in the 7kaa software center. I hope you like the contribution.

The version of Caesar III that you put to download is a rip that does not need installation, therefore, you cannot follow the CaesarIA installation instructions. Check that out, please.

The game is not abandonware, it is still on sale for € 3 and less in specialized stores, both physical and online. Besides, it is perfectly known who is the current owner of the copyright of the franchise (Activision), so there is not even the legal vacuum of "it is illegal to pirate it, but the damage is done to an unknown or non-existent entity", which is the true abandonware approach. It is not something as simple as "it is old, and as such it is free" ... that is simply false.

to @A detail: thanks for your clarification, because I am in a business project to use this video game as the core, but first, I have to talk to Activision
