BuxyBox 1.26.0: the new version of the Linux Swiss Army knife arrives

BussyBox

For those who do not know this fantastic package, BusyBox It was created by the well-known Bruce Perens and written in C. It is a program that includes many standard Unix utilities and can be installed in Linux and other Unix-like ones. It is undoubtedly a very powerful and practical tool for administrators and advanced users. So much so that they call it the Swiss Army Knife of Linux systems, although not many users know that they use it daily in their distros, although it is more evident and famous in embedded Linux systems.

It was initially written with the aim of working on Debian and bringing all these functionalities and utilities Unix standard to the penguin system and since its inception many years and a lot of work has gone into this package. But if you don't know it or haven't used it yet, I encourage you to use it. Of course it is free and open source software, free and it can be a good administration suite.

Well, without further ado, I would like to explain the news itself that has prompted this article, which is none other than the release of a new version of this package. Is about Busybox 1.26.0, which comes with improvements as another Christmas gift and that continues to have the essence of the UNIX collection of utilities that it has brought from the beginning. It comes six months after BusyBox 1.25.0 (development version) and it is an unstable version. If you want to play it safe and not try new features, you can get BusyBox 1.25.1 which is the latest stable for now.

The stable version, 1.26.1, is expected to arrive in a few weeks so that you can enjoy it. So far you can test this and the changes it implements. What's new? Well, with respect to the previous version has undergone 200 changes, nothing more and nothing less. Among them are the improvements of many of its tools (ping, sendmail, sed, less, vi, ntpd, sh, cp, df, fdisk, awk, patch, i2cdump,…), some errors corrected.

It would be a good idea for these types of articles to include links to the original sources. At least to see the detailed list of changes.
