Brain, an alternative to macOS Spotlight

Brain

More and more Free Software applications seek to offer the same functions as proprietary applications. Thus, we have applications that listen to our voice like Mycroft, others that offer us geolocation services, such as Gnome Maps and others like Plank, offer us the possibility of having a dock on any desktop.

The application that we present to you today, Brain, it is one of those applications that will be in many distributions and in many computersas it claims to be the free alternative to Spotlight.

Spotlight is a MacOS program that helps find and run apps or some knowledge thanks to its connection with Wikipedia or with iMDB, the Cinema on the Net service. Cerebro raises all this and more thanks to other connections that exist or the possibility of installing plugins to increase its functionality. In order to turn on Cerebro, we just have to do the following combination of Ctrl + Space keys and not only will the Brain panel open, but we will be able to search as if it were the Google Chrome navigation bar.

Cerebro can be customized thanks to the plugins it supports

Cerebro is compatible with plugins that will increase its functions but also that will allow you to customize it to perform certain functions if we have programming knowledge.

Cerebro is compatible with distributions based on Debian and Ubuntu but also with those that use AppImage format. If our distribution is not one of these, we can choose to compile all the code and install it in the format we want. For this we will need the code and instructions of the Cerebro's GitHub repository.

Cerebro can not only be installed on a Gnu / Linux distribution but also We can install it on Windows as well as on MacOS. Something practical for those who, in addition to using the penguin operating system, also use other operating systems.

Personally, I don't like Spotlight and applications like Cerebro do not use them but they are still interesting for many users, even to be able to combine it with other voice control applications.
