blendOS v4 arrives after a year of development now fully declarative

BlendOS v4

When Rudra Saraswat he presented to the world to this project, the truth is that I had mixed feelings. On the one hand, being able to install packages from any distribution - and later from Android - sounded great; On the other hand, its creator is also behind Ubuntu Unity, Unity Desktop, Ubuntu Web, UbuntuEd and I don't know if he left anything behind, so I was worried that he could leave this project like others. But time goes by, and blendOS v4 has arrived continuing its progression.

blendOS v4 continues with its development model. It is an immutable distribution, which means that it is read only and it can't be broken. The difference between this distro and others like Fedora or SteamOS is that it includes the default tools to install packages from other distributions. In addition to being immutable, it is also atomic, and since blendOS v4, completely declarative.

blendOS v4 now available

To be totally declarative allows you to have any package, kernel or drivers from the Arch Linux repositories or your user repository, also known as AUR for its acronym in English, while including options from GNOME, KDE, XFCE, MATE and Budgie so that we do not have to download the graphical environments on our own, which would also force us to configure them to look good.

Saraswat has not published much more information about what's new in blendOS v4, but it is known that he uses Linux 6.9 and the packages have been updated to more recent versions.

For those who don't know him, the android support It exists, but only on desktops with full Wayland support – such as GNOME and KDE – and cannot be used on virtual machines. In order to see the full potential of this immutable and atomic distribution, you must perform a native installation, that is, not use it in a live session or in a virtual machine.
