BattlEye works with Valve for its support on Steam Play

Surely you already know Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC), that is, an anti-cheat system. In the case of battleye It is another system of the same type to prevent players from cheating when they play and if it detects that they are cheating they will be banned in order to make a more equitable game within multiplayer systems. Well, it seems that they have confirmed that they work with Valve to provide support within Steam Play / Proton.

But the funny thing here is that shortly before, from BattlEye they had confirmed to a source that they would only have native support for Linux video games, and when entering into Steam Play this will not be the case, there will be support for various platforms. All this news comes from a query that was made in a list of messages where the developers of this tool confirmed that they did not have official support for Wine, but that they worked together with Valve to support Proton.

Perhaps the news does not seem too interesting, since it is one more Anti-Cheat system, or perhaps because it usually happens that a developer says something and then rectifies and says another. But we can analyze what could be behind this and perhaps it is more interesting than the news itself. Maybe in the future Player Unknown's Battle Grounds could it be played on Linux from Steam Play? This may make things easier, no doubt ...

Although Valve is doing its homework for the Linux gaming world, there are still many games that cannot be played through the platform. Steam Play / Proton from Linux, because some technical issues prevent it despite the fact that this Wine implementation allows us to run native video games for Windows on our distro. One of them is that many games use this Anti-Cheat software and that BattleEye works on Steam Play will mean that that barrier will be removed.
