GitHub has released a new stable update to its open source, cross-platform text editor Atom to add a large number of performance improvements and bug fixes.
Atom 1.25 is now available for GNU / Linux, MacOS and Windows and it comes with GitHub package enhancements for adding and viewing file changes, adding symbolic links, as well as the two-pane viewer update that will no longer restore scrolling position.
"There is also a new setting in the configuration that controls whether the commit messages composed by the mini-editor are formatted as 72 columns. Commit messages created with the full editor will continue as before”Mentions David Wilson, Atom developer on GitHub.
Atom 1.25, improved support for Python and HTML
Atom version 1.25 also improves support for Python and HTML implementing support for function annotation, binary strings, async functions, and string formatting when programming in Python, as well as support for CSS style attributes in HTML.
In terms of overall performance, this version of Atom adds support for opening files in existing windows using the "atom - wait" command and makes the "Save" and "Confirm" dialogs start with the asynchronous API.
This new version improves code compression and syntax highlighting adding a new system called tree-sitter for C, C ++, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Bash and GO languages, although this new system is in an experimental phase and is disabled by default.
Atom 1.25 comes with Electron 1.7.11 which also brings many enhancements such as the ability for OneDrive users to view files on demand in Windows, Linux feed enhancements, and increased security, stability, and overall performance.
The next version of Atom has entered beta development with promises of new features and improvements including a new browser, file system improvements, and much more work with the GitHub package.
