AssaultCube 1.3: New version of the free FPS for Linux

Assault Cube

Assaultcube is an FPS (First Person Shooter) style multiplayer video game, that is, a first person shooter game. It is based on the CUBE graphics engine and is available for multiple platforms. So far everything is normal, but there is a peculiarity that makes this title interesting. On the one hand it is available natively for Linux, and on the other hand it is totally free.

Since its launch in 2013 it has been on the mend, although lately the project didn't seem too active. But now AssaultCube 1.3 Lockdown Edition arrives. With all the good of the previous versions, but with some improvements. And all thanks to the fact that during the pandemic, a group of ex-developers decided to return and improve the project.

Although AssaultCube is geared towards online multiplayer gameplay, the truth is that it also has a single player mode with bots controlled by the computer so you can play offline. It has a multitude of maps to play (it comes with 45 as standard, but you can download countless of them created by amateurs with the included map editor), and its graphics are somewhat basic, but it allows you to play online even with a slow connection. On the other hand, you also find several game modes such as Deathmatch, Survivor, Capture de flag, Keep the Flag, Pistol Frenzy, Last Swiss, etc.

What's new in AssaultCube 1.3 Lockdown Edition

This new effort has resulted in improvements interesting for this AssaultCube 1.3 Lockdown Edition such as:

  • 8 new maps.
  • 15 new textures.
  • 2 new map models.
  • High resolution player skins.
  • Option to enter multiplayer mode as a spectator.
  • System to prevent some players from taking advantage of special modes.
  • Added option to disable flag score transparency, as well as transparency options for console and votes.
  • You now have a command line and key combination history to scroll the output console with the mouse wheel.
  • Improvements regarding the handling of the mouse and keyboard controls.
  • You will no longer experience crashes on Linux due to graphics driver issues.
  • Server parameters support dynamic modifications.
  • Maps can be tracked on the server.
  • Other improvements and bug fixes.

It was also released for executables for Windows from Windows 2000 onwards, in Windows the executable is assaultcube.bat, if you want the CMD extension copy the same assaultcube.bat file (click RMB) to the aforementioned file «copy» and then «paste ", From this it will create" assaultcube - copy1.bat "and rename them as" assaultcube.cmd ". NOTE: Without »» (quotation marks) remove them.

For the use of Linux it is mandatory to use read and write permissions, example commands such as: "chmod 755 / home / assaultcube" and "chmod a + x / home / assaultcube"

    Greetings and happy games.
