Apricity OS is discontinued

apricity OS

We have bad news for users of this operating system. Apricity OS is officially discontinued, which means that no more versions will be released for this operating system. On top of that, older versions won't be supported either, which sadly means this system is dead.

The reason why it has disappeared has been lack of time. Developers announced in a brief statement that they no longer had time to offer support for the system or to work on new editions. This has triggered the premature death of this great operating system.

Apricity OS was an operating system that it promised a lot. Officially launched in August 2016, Apricity was based on Arch Linux and therefore shared its Rolling Release upgrade system. What was innovative about Apricity is that it combined Arch Linux repositories with its own repositories with modified programs.

It also stood out for its simplicity, since in a similar way to Manjaro, I tried to offer all the good things of Arch Linux but making it much easier. The most interesting was the Calamares graphical installer, which allowed you to install packages graphically without resorting to the command console.

It is certainly a pity that this distribution has disappeared so quickly, since I had good ideas and a good working community. However, even his web page has been deleted, leaving only the aforementioned farewell message.

If you already had Apricity OS installed, you will no longer have official supportYou can still use the Arch Linux repositories though. If you want to find an alternative that has a similar objective, we advise you Manjaro, the most popular Arch Linux-based distribution that stands out for its simplicity.

You can also give a chance to Antergosa distribution that is national product and that he has nothing to envy Manjaro.

A Chronicle of a Death Foretold. I tried it when it came out, and was amazed at how many bugs it had. At the moment, none of them have ousted Antergos; the best based on Arch.

    Hello:
Attention manjaro on April 1 announced that in 6 months it would abandon all platforms that were not ARM, it is true that that day in some countries is the equivalent of the Holy Innocents, but they have not eliminated the news from their archive so it seems that will be real.
    Greetings.

It was to be expected, not especially for Apricity OS, but for so many derivatives that in the end they become redundant without providing anything more than a specific aesthetic fix or at best, like Antergos, an excellent installer like Cnchi. But in the end it is the same as always with the aggravation that one day what we are seeing happens, and it is not the first time. Better to bet on one of the "big" Debian, Fedora, etc ..

a reflection on dystro-mania with little sense, beyond the simple game.
If one analyzes about distros that appear and disappear (why? what do they contribute, a new desktop? a little more design?) it is nonsense.
Let's not talk about those who try to create their own new packaging and installer; solus for saying one.
is that pacman-aur, apt-ubuntu-debian, rpm-derived slackpkg-slackware, or the gentoo source are not enough.
or not enough with the desktops that already exist i3, openbox, lxde, xfce, genome, unity, kde and more
when it says that GNU / linux Sucks !!!
it is said in that sense as self-criticism-reflective.
There is a lack of free software apps that provide quality solutions in many issues, for example video-photos:
almost abandoned photivo, rawtherapee, darktable, ufraw, they just don't measure up. (That is why all or almost all photographers-videographers are on windows or mac) or what substitute for teamviewer is there? none of the same level.
or qtox-antox that are very good, but they still have a long way to go to be stable and replace skype for real.
good ideas are abandoned; tor-chat for example, and ricochet arises I don't know why, instead of continuing tor-chat.
tor-messenger has been in alpha for years, finally recently stepped into beta uffff
And we could go on and on

    above all understand

when it says that GNU / linux Sucks !!!

it is said in that sense as self-criticism-reflective
too repackaging of the same DISTRO_MANIA_NON_SENSE

Luckily we have the grammar of English, because it is seen that that of Spanish is insufficient or not very cool: _

Well, I'll be forever grateful to Apricity OS. It was the first distro I tried based on Arch after more than 10 years with Ubuntu and derivatives (already drifting) like Mint or Elementary and got to be on 11 machines in production (development environments).
We are currently migrating to Manjaro (Arch updates are too many) on desktops and Antergos on laptops. There is no going back to Debian and co ...
