AMD Radeon Rays 4.0: it's official and will be open source

AMD Radeon Ray

El ray tracing It has become a new trend in the latest graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD. It was the first pioneer to include it in its most powerful graphics, considerably improving the graphic quality of video games. But now AMD has also advanced in this regard, and has added it so that PlayStation and Xbox platforms that use AMD GPUs also have it, as well as PCs.

The results from AMD, as you can see in the following video of the Sony PS5, leave some PCs with current graphics cards in a bad way, since the quality that can be seen in the demo video is extraordinary. AMD has done a great job in this regard, and despite taking later than NVIDIA, it is giving many joys to the gaming world with some of its announcements such as those of Radeon Rays 4.0.

If the video seems too little to check AMD graphics power, there is more good news coming from the Sunny Valley company. One of them could be that they already have Zen 3 ready, with one of the biggest increases in performance of the IPC since the launch of Zen 1 over Bulldozer. Some rumors indicate that it would be 7-10% more powerful than Zen 2, which is a lot ...

But no, it is not that news that comes from AMD. The good thing the community will like is that after the official release of Radeon Rays 4.0 under a closed source license, AMD has decided to open it and will now be open source.

They have already relaunched the powerful open source graphics drivers AMDGPU, the new optimizations for Vulkan, and also their suite of tools for game developers GPUOpen with FidelityFX. Well, now we have to add Radeon Rays 4.0 to the list, since after launching it as closed source, the community was upset, and that has caused the company to reconsider and release the code.

One of the leaders of AMD, Brian Savery, published the following statement: «We have reviewed this internally and we will make the following changes: AMD will make Radeon Rays 4.0 open source.«
