Until days before doing the Switch What made me start using Linux, I remember that I used a program called MediaMonkey as a music library. I liked it, and it showed me that you could have all the music well organized in the same program. In Ubuntu, at first nothing satisfied me, until they recommended a player that had a howling wolf as a logo. It improved what existed, but I stopped using it due to slow development and because I later used iTunes on my Mac. But that development has been reactivated and is now available amarok 3.0.
I think I'm not wrong when I say that Amarok 3.0 is the remake of the Elisa from almost two decades ago. It is a KDE Extragear program, that is, from KDE but it is not part of its official applications, but KDE Gear did not exist at that time. A couple of days ago they released a new stable version, and among its most notable new features we have that it has been almost up to date, uploading to KDE Frameworks 5 and Qt5.
Most notable new features of Amarok 3.0
- It is now based on KDE Frameworks 5.0 and Qt5. Its developers say they are working on bringing it to the same level, but in the sixes.
- Visual indication that context view applets can be resized in edit mode.
- Menu entry to collapse all expanded items in collection view.
- Song progress display on OSD menu.
- Ability to copy track details from the contextual applet of the current track.
- Drag and drop reorganization in the queue editor.
- Dynamic mode no longer displays non-functional playback controls.
- Symbolic system tray icons are preferred to improve integration with KDE Plasma 6.
- Replacing lyricwiki with a new song lyrics provider.
As we read in its release note, the landing of Amarok 3.0 is official, but they do not offer any download link. Interested users should compile the code or wait for their Linux distribution to add the new packages.
