They publish a video about the Orange Pi Neo, a whole hour of playing Battlefront 2 as a demonstration

Orange Pi Neo

Last February, Manjaro and Orange Pi they presented la Orange Pi Neo. "The" or "the", as each one prefers, since while it is true that these devices are mainly sold as consoles, it is also true that they are actually a computer with a portable console outfit. Every time they release a new console with these characteristics we say that it could be competition from the Steam Deck, but the truth is that it is very difficult to live up to what Valve offers.

Today's news is a video that the developers of Manjaro, the one you have below these lines. In it you can see an hour of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 game, a type video gameplay Although it is true that it does not explain much, a couple of conclusions can be drawn. But first it's worth taking a look at the video.

Orange Pi Neo in action

Watching the full video is a task that I think only very fans of video games, Manjaro or Orange Pi, can do. In terms of performance, the only thing that can be said is that the Orange Pi Neo can with a title that went on sale in 2017. It would have been nice to see something a little more current, but this is what they have published and with this we have to settle.

Editor's opinion

The editor of this article, myself, is considering – he has practically decided – to purchase a Steam Deck, and his opinion may be a little biased. But there are a couple of details that draw attention. The first is design of the Orange Pi Neo: I don't think that the Steam Deck has a design that we could label "Premium", but I do think that it is much more careful than that of this orange pi console.

Another detail that we can see in the video is that it starts at 99%, and in an hour and a few minutes it runs out of battery. From the tests and reviews that I have seen both on the blogosphere and on YouTube, even the most powerful Ally at maximum performance can provide something more than that. It seems little to me. Even so, it is true that there are still things to polish, but, always in my opinion, a lot has to improve to be on par with the Steam Deck.

The Orange Pi Neo should go on sale in 2024 and, according to rumors, will a similar price to the Asus Rog Ally, but will use Manjaro Gaming Edition instead of Windows.
