We already have a new version of the Linux Kernel, version 4.4 LTS. This version brings important news such as adding a lot of drivers and also improvements in startup and in protocols such as TCP among others

After a few months of development with lots of beta versions and candidate versions, version 4.4 of the Linux kernel has finally come out, which has the addition of being LTS, that is, of having a support longer than normal, which comes out two months after the Kernel 4.3.

This kernel, which will be included in the future among others in Ubuntu LTS 16.04 and the next version of Arch Linux, includes a lot of news that we will see below what they are.

What's new in Linux kernel 4.4 LTS

  • Added 3D acceleration for virtual hosts.
  • Improved system boot system.
  • Added Open-Channel SSD support to be done through LightNVM.
  • Improved RAID5 support.
  • Various improvements in file storage.
  • Improvement in the TCP protocol.
  • Added support for a bunch of drivers.
  • Optimized RAM memory consumption.
  • Correction of errors and various bugs.
  • Other improvements, if you know English you can see all the details here.

As you have already seen, this new version of the Linux kernel has a lot of news to its credit. This is not for less, since, as it happens in systems like Ubuntu, in a version of long support LTS they usually include more news than in normal versions of it.

Actually, most changes have been included in the Beta versions and RC versions that have been coming to light these months. In the words of Linus Torvalds, the changes from the last candidate version (version 8) to the final version have not been much, so if you were testing the candidate versions you will not notice much difference.

We already have this version of the kernel available As it's usual, on the page of kernel.org, being also available other previous versions of the same.
