The Librem 5 will look beautiful with GNOME 3.30 assures Purism

Purism continues to talk about the development of its next phone with the Linux Librem 5 operating system that will hit the streets in January 2019.

The development team behind the privacy and security focused phone, Librem 5, has not had a vacation and is working around the clock to launch the Linux phone that all free software fans have dreamed of.

In a recent report, Purism mentioned that the Librem 5 will look beautiful thanks to a new icon pack created by its design team exclusively for the upcoming GNOME 3.30 graphics environment.

GNOME 3.30 is currently in beta, but will be officially released on September 5. Apart from the new icon style that Purism will use in Librem 5, GNOME 3.30 it will have many improvements and new features.

The user interface based on GNOME for Librem 5 it will use the next generation Wayland graphics server and will not have support for X11 applications. Powered by PureOS, Debian based system, the Linux Librem 5 phone will arrive at first with basic applications for making calls, sending texts and browsing the Internet.

While Purism continues to work with the potential maker of Librem 5 cards, many of the things have already been agreed upon and those who pre-order the device will receive a kit containing EmCraft's i.MX 8M System-On-Module (SoM), a 5.7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 720 × 1440 pixels, as well as the SIMCom 7100A or SIMCom 7100E modem for bands in the United States or Europe.

Additionally, the Librem 5 development card will have a Redpine RS9116 M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module which supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands for Wi-Fi, but not 802.11ac and a Omnivision OV5640 CMOS chip which works as an image sensor for the camera. The kits, which will ship soon, are intended for developers who want to start developing applications for Librem 5.
