The first maintenance update for the August 2024 release of the most popular office suite is here. Just a few moments ago, The Document Foundation has made official the launch of LibreOffice 24.08.1, and has not provided much information on the matter. In fact, in its note it talks, above all, about the suite, the product, the best alternative to Microsoft 365 that was previously known as Office. Those who are interested in knowing the most striking new features, the best thing they can do is read Our article from last August.
LibreOffice 24.8.1 has arrived fixing a total of 89 bugs, 62 of which appear in the RC1 and another 27 in the RC2. Of all of them, there are at least three that will improve the experience on Linux, on KDE to be more specific: form controls errors for multiline text not being shown with background when entering data, the KDE desktop has an issue with extended longlines, the text line does not wrap, and on Firebird, changing the primary key to autovalue causes the entire LO to crash.
LibreOffice 24.8.1 is not recommended for production computers
LibreOffice 24.8.1 en the most up-to-date version of the office suite. Although it has already had a point update, TDF still does not recommend it for production teams. In environments where stability is more important than having all the features, the company still recommends the 24.2 series, currently with six maintenance updates.
The old version numbering has been left behind, the latest being 7.6.5, if I'm not mistaken. Since January, the numbering has changed to the year first, the month second — the February one came out a day earlier — and the fix number third. So the next one will be LibreOffice 24.8.2. The new features are expected in February 2025.
