Joshua Strobl left Solus and will continue to develop Budgie separately.

Recently the key developer of the Budgie desktop, Joshua Strobl, announced his resignation from the Solus Board of Directors and the position of the leadership authority, responsible for interaction with developers and development of the Budgie user interface.

Meanwhile the person in charge of the technical part of Solus, assured that the development of the distribution will continue in the near future, in addition to announcing the change in the project's structure and the restructuring of the team's composition.

For its part, Joshua Strobl explained that he intends to join the development of new SerpentOS distribution, which was also passed on by the original creator of the Solus project.

With this we can see an excellent job on the part of the old Solus team, as they will join the SerpentOS project.

Joshua too plans to migrate Budgie user environment from GTK libraries to EFL and he intends to spend more time developing Budgie. Additionally, he plans to create a separate organization to oversee the development of the Budgie user environment and bring in community members interested in Budgie, such as the Ubuntu Budgie and Endeavor OS distributions.

How to Live Aligned with reason for departure, Joshua cites conflict that arose in the context of attempts to express and solve the problems that hinder the promotion of change in Solus, both from the direct participants of the project and from community actors. Joshua does not reveal the details of the conflict so as not to do laundry in public. It is only mentioned that all his attempts to change the situation and improve the work with the community were rejected and none of the problems expressed were solved.

As many of you know, I had previously announced plans to stream at the start of this new year to start the development of a new web infrastructure and wrap up a couple of development items.

These broadcasts are canceled in part of this announcement: I am resigning from Solus.

I know this announcement will come as a shock to many of you. I have been involved with Solus for over 6 years. It would have been March 7. I started out as someone simply providing patches for new software, then helped shape and communicate developments in Solus (and as it was previously called evolutionOS) as a member of the team. Along the way, I got more involved in development. In 2018, I stepped up to help co-lead Solus. I became the lead developer for Budgie. And yes, I did make quite controversial positions in relation to other developments in the Linux ecosystem.

To summarize why I am quitting Solus, I have tried to raise a wide range of issues that affect the ability to contribute to Solus, both myself and others in the community. I want to be clear, I have not been a perfect leader. As at all It has been a learning experience like everything else, and in the last two years I have tried to be more open to comments, proposals, changes, etc. Sometimes I have been impatient. Sometimes I didn't take the comments seriously. I am only human.

I submitted feedback based on issues raised by a formal Global Maintainer for Solus. I will not delve into details, because frankly I do not want to air dirty laundry. Everyone is better than, including me. But the fact is, the comments were not taken into account, and that was in September.

In October, additional behavior brought me to a breaking point. I basically quit Solus at the time, on our dev channel. If it weren't for the people who approached, I would have followed him.

And here we are again, with no more issues being addressed and instead of the parties accepting their part / responsibility it just got sidetracked and not recognized. No issue I raised was addressed, nor was anything I felt necessary for the betterment of the Solus community addressed.
