What happened to the famous video game Pingus?

Pingus: screenshot

You will all remember the fantastic game Pingus for Linux, and surely many of you still play a little game in this classic. For newcomers, say that it is a free game based on the well-known Lemmings game and that it was published under the GNU GPL license. It is available for various platforms besides Linux, such as Mac and Windows. Despite the rudimentary nature of the game, it is highly entertaining and addictive.

The game was started in late 1998, and since then it has evolved over time. If you want more information, you can consult the official project website. Its dynamic was equal to that of Lemmings, only that the protagonists are little penguins. These are leaving from an exit and your task is to redirect them towards the exit, if you manage to reach the requirements of saved penguins you will be able to pass the screen and advance on the main map to another. For this you will have a series of tools or qualities of these penguins that you must manage properly.

Many distros included the Pingus package among their packages that are included by default with the system installation, with Pingus appearing among the available games. Currently it is no longer like that, and many will wonder what happened to the famous gameWell, looking at its official website it seems that it is somewhat abandoned. Well, the last available version of the game is Pingus 0.7.6 that was released in December 2011 and since then little work has been done on the project, except porting it to Mac and some updates for the Apple system.

Also in March 2015 moved the Pingus code to a page of GitHub where you can download it or if you want, create a fork of it, contribute, etc. There it seems that it has some activity, since the last commit (change in its code or files) that appears dates from 4 months ago. But like I say, little activity. But that does not mean that it is not available, so whether you knew it or not, I encourage you from LxA to rescue it and enjoy it again ...
