Fuchsia OS is here, but probably not how you expected

Fuchsia OS

As for the operating systems, as in almost everything, in the end they end up using a few. In computers, the most used in the world is Windows, followed by far by macOS and much more behind those based on Linux. When we move on to the field of mobile phones, what is most used is Android, and Google has been precisely one of the companies that has thought that there is room for something else, specifically an operating system that has been going on for years Developing and is called Fuchsia OS.

If it weren't about Google, I'd say it's an operating system that was born to die. Being one of the most important technology companies in the world, I have doubts. And more doubts I have after they have announced (via 9to5Google) what the first devices to use it will be the Nest Hub. We are not talking about the most used devices today, but the Internet of Things, or IoT for its acronym in English, will be part of everyone's life sooner or later.

Fuchsia OS comes to the Nest Hub

Chosen Nest Hubs will receive the new operating system as an update. Updating an operating system to a higher version of it can present problems, so it is easy for a change like this to arrive with more problems than expected. For that reason, Google will deliver the update gradually.

As for the long-term future of Fuchsia OS, Google does not give much information, limiting itself to mention that not only are there phones and PCs, but that we are also increasingly entering the world of IoT. The operating system is designed to be able to run Android applications, which leaves us even more confused. For the desktop they already have Chrome OS, a limited system but that can run Linux apps and Android; for mobiles and tablets, and also for TV, they have Android; now present Fuchsia, and at the moment it is easy to think that it will focus on the domótica.

Given that not based on linux, which is made from scratch, I would have liked it more to be an alternative for mobile phones and even the desktop, just to see what Google is capable of, but perhaps they have thought that, at least in the short term, it is not a good idea .
