Firefox will let you scroll forward/back with two fingers on the trackpad

Firefox two finger swipe

A long time ago, I don't know if it was 2011 or 2012, my main computer was an iMac. At that time I bought a Magic Trackpad and I did everything with gestures on that touch panel, even super-vitamining it with third-party software. When I started using more laptops, my main computers went back to using Linux, but I always missed those gestures that allowed so much. GNOME and KDE, among others, are adding them under Wayland, and Firefox also has something to say in this regard.

Going back to my days with Mac OS X, one of the reasons I ended up using Safari was the full support of touchpad gestures. For example, you could click with three fingers on a link to view its content without entering a page, or go forward or backward by swiping with two fingers. This is something we may also be able to do with Firefox in the future.

Available from Firefox 103 and under Wayland

This, which I have read in OMG! linux, was already available when pressing the key Alt and navigation arrows, but it will no longer be necessary as of Firefox 103. Having tried it, and remembering those days of Safari on the iMac, there is something that I miss: the animation. Safari + Magic Trackpad follows the movement of the fingers, and the new page is superimposed on the previous one. It is an effect that is very showy, and also allows us to better see what is happening.

Esto already works in the latest Nightly of Firefox, and you don't have to activate anything from the advanced configuration section. The gestures would be two fingers to the left to go back and two to the right to go forward, we remember, under Wayland. It can be done in X11 with extra software, but not by default as Firefox 103 will allow (now we go for the v101).

Anyone interested in trying it out now can download the latest Firefox Nightly from this link. Remember here that it has been many months since you can have several versions of Firefox installed without one harming the other.
