Last September, almost a year ago, the red panda it started to allow us to translate entire pages in your web browser. In the little more than eleven months that have passed, Mozilla has released several more updates to improve this feature, and the latest is the Firefox 130 which is now available for download. No, the launch is not official, but they have already uploaded the new release to their server and the release notes are known and will be published tomorrow at midday in Spain.
Firefox 130 doesn't include a long list of new features, at least compared to other releases. A couple of the items on the list are the translation tool. To start with one, Now supports 11 more languages: Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Indonesian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak and Vietnamese. This change makes the tool really useful, and it will be hard to find a website that it cannot translate.
Also to translate languages, now it is capable of translating selected text from a page that had previously been translated. Selected text could already be translated, but this improvement adds a new twist.
Other new features in Firefox 130
Among the rest of the novelties, it stands out that Firefox Labs Firefox Labs has reached the stable version. Firefox Labs is a section that was already available in preliminary versions, such as Nightly, and from it it is easier to activate certain functions. In Firefox 130, the improvement debuts with the ability to activate a chatbot, to choose from among several options — and ChatGPT is among them —, and the possibility of pages with videos taking off and floating the same if we change to another tab.
The list of changes would be completed by WebCryptoAPI now supporting Curve25519 primitives, the Web Codecs API has been enabled on desktop platforms, an issue where the “Copy” and “Paste” context menu items were intermittently not activated when expected has been fixed, and several bug fixes and security patches.
Firefox 130 can now be downloaded from the Mozilla server, available in this link. Tomorrow it will also be available for download from their website. Also from the official repository and they will update the snap and flatpak packages.
