Firefox 129 will be announced today with improvements to reader mode and CSS support, among others

Firefox 129

Throughout today, Mozilla will make official the launch of a new version of its web browser, in this case Firefox 129. It can now be downloaded from your server, and a server, pardon the redundancy, knows the news that will be shown in the release notes, currently preparing. Overall, a modest update, but interesting for at least three points: reader mode, CSS support, and tab preview.

El reader mode It now features an improved Text and Layout menu with new options for character spacing, word spacing, and text alignment. With these changes we can better control the distribution of the elements. In the same mode we also find a Theme menu with more Contrast and Gray options, in addition to allowing you to choose custom colors for the text, background and links from the Customize tab.

Highlights of Firefox 129

On CSS, it seems that Mozilla has read me in an article in which I criticized the support for CSS in non-Chromium browsers and they have taken action. In the latest versions We have always found something for this language, and in Firefox 129 support for it has been added. @starting-style and for more inactive CSS warnings, including when the property is used incorrectly resize, when properties are used incorrectly float and table-related properties are not on table-related elements. Also added support for CSS property transition-behavior. This property allows us to create a transition over discrete animated CSS properties.

The third point that draws the most attention is the tab preview. For more detailed information, it is better to look at the related article, but it can be summarized that a card appears with the content of a miniature page so that we know what is there without going to it.

Among the rest of the news, HTTPS will be used by default, but unlike what happens with other browsers, if HTTPS is not available it will use HTTP. In other browsers, an option must be activated to make this possible, or we will not see an HTTP page because it is not considered secure. Furthermore, HTTPS DNS records can now be resolved with the operating system's DNS resolver on specific platforms (Windows 11, Linux, Android 10+).

Mozilla, as always, has taken the opportunity to correct errors and apply security patches.

Firefox 129 can now be downloaded from the Mozilla server, and around 14-15 p.m. in Spain they will make the launch official by updating the release notes page. Later they will update the official repository versions, the snap package and flatpak.
