The universe of FOSS is really so wide, and the possibilities so many when creating a GNU / Linux distro, which sometimes ends up happening what just happened right now with antiX. A distro that just a few hours ago has launched its version number 16, nicknamed "Berta Cáceres" and that initially - at least in the plans of its developers- It was going to be one more maintenance update, but they began to add improvements and new versions in several of its main components and in the end it has come as a major update.
Their own developers indicate that they started out working on a 'prep' distro for a future update but got carried away by the enthusiasm and ended up adding a ton of improvements, especially regarding the live mode of this distro. And these are not minor improvements since now antiX 16 «Berta Cáceres» can boot from a USB stick in less than 10 seconds, an exceptional time that allows us to take it with us and use it anywhere almost immediately, including also UEFI loader management improvements or a feature called SaveState which is nothing other than the data persistence and the ability to save sessions to continue later on another team, at another time.
As we well know, antiX is based on Debian GNU / Linux 8.5 "Jessie" but without the controversial SystemdAs for the system components, it comes with the Linux kernel 4.4.10 LTS (Long Term Support), with the LibreOffice 4.3.3-2 office suite, the Mozilla Firefox 45.2.0 ESR web browser, Claws Mail 3.13.0 .XNUMX as an email client, GNOME MPlayer for the reproduction of multimedia content, in this section with Streamlight-antiX to help the reproduction of online videos on computers with limited RAM memory. Then there are three different 'flavors' of antiX: antiX Full, which comes with four different window managers (IceWM, Fluxbox, Joe's Window Manager, and Herbstluftwm), anti-X Base (offers Fluxbox, JWM and Herbstluftwm) and antiX Core Libre, the 'light' version It comes without a graphical environment so that users add 'by hand' based on their tastes and of course, also on their knowledge.
In short, antiX 16 "Berta Cáceres" is a very interesting distro with very good performance, which is well worth knowing, even if it is not testing it in Live mode. Now we can download it from your SourceForge space.
Proud that it bears that name, I'm from Honduras, that's why I'll try it xD
Why that name?

Fortunately, with a good pendrive and USB 3.0 you can boot any distro quickly, second up, second down.
